Large Area Rezoning

Many areas have zoning inconsistencies due to old zoning codes. Large Area Rezoning (LAR) is meant to align zoning in the area with the current use of properties, consistent with the adopted future land use plan(s). Only City Council can approve zoning changes.

Process

  1. City Council Request (CCR) submitted by the Council District office
  2. City Council approves resolution to initiate the LAR process
  3. Research and property analysis phase - review property records, create maps, set timeline, conducts site visits
  4. Staff completes property analysis and creates maps and list of proposed zoning changes
  5. Neighborhood Association "Taskforce" Meetings
  6. Community meetings are held to discuss proposed changes
  7. Notices of public hearings are mailed
  8. Zoning Commission Hearing
  9. City Council Hearing
  10. Ordinance signed approving the zoning changes
