The Community Meetings begin in October 2021 and ran through December 2021. All meetings were held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and were open to the public. Residents were able to sign up for Citizens to be Heard for the second and third committee meetings.
Community meetings could include up to four meetings per Committee; however, at the Committee's discretion the review and recommendation of projects could be completed in fewer meetings.
Meeting 1 were ethics and staff recommendations. Meetings 2 and 3 were Citizens to Be Heard and deliberation. Meeting 4 was deliberation and Action on Final.
Recommended projects were submitted to City Council and the Mayor for consideration in January 2022. Upon their review and approval, the Mayor and City Council created a call to action for the Bond Program.
The 2022 Bond Program went before the voters for approval in May 2022.
Review and recommend projects to improve or develop storm drainage systems to include detention basins, channels, elimination of low water crossings and other drainage projects in coordination with Bexar Regional Watershed Management Program.
Review and recommend projects that enhance community and public facilities.
Develop a strategic housing bond program that provides affordable housing opportunities through production, preservation, and housing assistance programs targeting the most vulnerable households identified in the city's Housing Policy Framework and Strategic Housing Implementation Plan (SHIP). The program will encompass the framework priority areas of protecting and promoting neighborhoods, including preventing displacement, and must be consistent with legally prescribed requirements for expenditure of public bond funds for housing programs.
Review and recommend projects that acquire, develop or renovate parks and park facilities and amenities including swimming pools, Community, Recreation and Gymnasium facilities, ball fields and ball fields lighting, trails and open space in coordination with established park system plans.
Review and recommend projects to construct or improve street amenities, sidewalks and multimodal facilities in coordination with established transportation plans of the City and other Agencies.
