The contest invites students to submit artwork or poetry highlighting themes such as Healthy Food, Family, Hope, Community, Diversity, San Antonio Culture, and Resilience.

Winning entries will be featured throughout November during Diabetes Awareness Month and showcased at the Diabetes Health Fair on November 14, 2025, at Monterrey Park. Winners will also receive prizes and recognition at the event.

Diabetes & Our Community

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how the body turns food into energy. Without proper prevention or management, it can lead to serious health complications.

Why it matters:

  • San Antonio has one of the highest diabetes rates in the nation.
  • Diabetes increases risks of heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke.
  • Prevention is possible through small lifestyle changes—healthy eating, regular exercise, and weight management.

Community Partnerships

Metro Health partners with local organizations to raise awareness, promote prevention, and connect residents with diabetes management resources. By encouraging youth to use their voices through art and poetry, we foster creativity, awareness, and community-wide action to reduce the impact of diabetes.
