Metro Health and H-E-B are relaunching the Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program beginning May 15, 2026, to help families manage the cost of life-saving diabetes medication.

This program aims to improve access to affordable insulin for individuals living with diabetes, ensuring that no family has to go without essential treatment due to financial barriers.

Eligibility

San Antonio and Bexar County families requiring financial help to pay for their insulin prescription are eligible to join. Proof of income, insurance, citizenship or other documents are not required to join the program.

How to Access the Program

  1. Submit Your Insulin Prescription
    • You can either ask your healthcare provider to send the prescription to a participating pharmacy or fill it in person.
    • Ask the H-E-B Pharmacy representative about the Diabetes Insulin Assistance Program to get connected.
  2. Complete the Consent Form
    • Complete an electronic consent form either online or at a participating H-E-B Pharmacy.
    • By providing your contact information, you consent to being contacted by Metro Health's Diabetes Prevention and Control Program. You will be provided an option to attend no-cost diabetes workshops. Attending a workshop is not required to participate in the program.

Prescription Delivery Services

If you live within 15 miles of the participating pharmacy filling your prescription, then delivery of your insulin is free. A delivery fee will be applied for distances beyond the 15 mile radius.
