WIC Benefits

Through Women, Infants and Children (WIC), you can receive:

  • breastfeeding support and health care referrals at no cost
  • food benefits (redeemable at grocery stores for certain nutritious foods)
  • nutrition education and counseling

Benefits

WIC foods are specifically selected for their high nutritional value as well as for their relatively low cost. You will receive a combination of these foods depending on your needs (pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum, child, infant).

Eligibility and Enrolling

Paso 1.Eligibility Requirements

  • To participate you must be:
    • pregnant
    • postpartum (up to 6 months after delivery)
    • breastfeeding (up to 1 year after delivery)
    • a parent, step-parent, guardian, or foster parent of a child under age 5
  • Meet Household Income: Texas WIC Income Guidelines.
  • Live in Texas: WIC clients usually receive services in the county where they live. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement for eligibility. You may attend any clinic you wish to attend.

Provide one item from each of the following categories:

  • Identification
    • Birth Certificate
    • Driver's License
    • Immunization Records
    • Military ID
    • Picture ID
    • Social Security Card
    • Student ID
    • Voter Registration Card
  • Proof of Income
    • Check stub from last 30 days
    • Current letter from employer (with number and address)
    • Disability Award Letter
    • Medicaid Card
    • Proof of child support
    • SNAP/Food Stamps (for the applicant)
    • Social Security
    • TANF
  • Proof of Residency
    • Lease agreement
    • Rent receipt
    • Utility bill

WIC EBT Card

Once approved, you will receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer card (EBT). You will be able to buy WIC foods as needed, provided the card has a positive balance.
