$40 million to help improve rental homes.
San Antonio voters approved the 2022 - 2027 Bond Program on May 7, 2022. The Affordable Housing Bond includes $150 million for the City of San Antonio to create and preserve affordable housing in five funding categories. One of those categories is to improve rental homes.
Through this program, existing rental homes are repaired. Affordable homes are preserved. Developers and organizations apply for the bond funds from the City of San Antonio. The goal is to preserve housing near jobs, transit, schools, and services.
Affordability for homes is defined by Area Median Income (AMI).
Market rate housing is priced at the current market value without government support or restrictions.
The department uses the word "home" to describe apartments and houses for rent or to own.
