Green & Healthy Homes

About the Program

The San Antonio Green and Healthy Homes (SAGHH) provides assistance to homeowners and landlords of residential properties (both single-family and multi-family) in creating healthy, safe, energy-efficient and sustainable homes for families and children. SAGHH is working to prevent and correct housing-related health and safety hazards, such as addressing lead-based paint, household asthma triggers and fire hazards.

Eligibility

To apply, you will need to meet the following requirements:

Home must be built prior to 1978 and located within the City of San Antonio.
Must have a child age five or younger living in or frequently visiting the home, or a pregnant person living in the home.
Establish sufficient ownership interest.
Household must meet Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) established income guidelines for families earning 80% or below Area Median Income (AMI).

Area Median Income (AMI)

About AMI

Area Median Income, or AMI, is the middle income for households in San Antonio and Bexar County — half of households earn more, and half earn less.

Why It Matters

This program is for households with low to moderate incomes. To qualify, your household income generally needs to be at or below 80% of the AMI. Both your total household income and the number of people living in your home are used to determine if you qualify. Check the chart below to see if your household may qualify.

Getting Started

Step 1.Required Documentation

These documents must be included with your application:

ID and Social Security

A current government-issued ID (Texas Driver’s License or Texas Department of Safety ID) for everyone living in the home.
Social Security Cards for everyone living in the home, including children.

Test Results (if applicable)

Copy of child(ren)'s lead test results for children between 1 and 5 years old, if available.

Mortgage or Lease

If you have a mortgage, bring your most recent mortgage statement.
For rental properties, please provide a copy of your lease or proof of rent.

Proof of Income — bring any that apply

Last 3 consecutive months of pay stubs.
Last 2 years of tax returns (if self-employed).
Current 2026 benefit award letters for any of the following:
- Social Security
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Retirement benefits
- Child Support
- Alimony
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

Bank Statements

Last 3 most recent consecutive monthly bank statements (for example: December 2025, January 2026, and February 2026).

Retirement Accounts

If you have a retirement savings account, bring your most recent statement.

NOTE: If all documentation is received, staff will review the application. Submission of an application does not guarantee eligibility or selection for any program or loan approval.

Lead-Safe Housing Registry

Find Safer Homes for Your Family. The City of San Antonio's Green & Healthy Homes program is working to protect children and families from the dangers of lead-based paint. Through this program, homes and rental units receive repairs that remove or control lead hazards. To help families find safe housing options, we maintain this Lead-Safe Housing Register.

Lead is especially harmful to young children and pregnant individuals. Living in a lead-safe home helps protect your child's health and gives families peace of mind.
