April 11 – 17 is Black Maternal Health Week. This is a time to raise awareness about Black Maternal Health. When communities come together to listen, learn, and act, we help create a future where Black mothers are honored, supported and celebrated. Together, we can advance a future rooted in equity, care and community wellbeing.

Healing Starts with Listening

Listening to Black mothers, listening to their needs and listening to their wisdom and strength. This Black Maternal Health Week, every mother deserves to be heard, supported, and advocated for — especially Black mothers who face unique and often overlooked challenges in maternal healthcare.

By listening, supporting, and advocating, we can create a world where Black maternal health is prioritized. When we come together, we can create a future where Black mothers are valued, and healing is a legacy in our journey.

Stories Matter

Black women’s voices matter. Their stories carry truth, strength, and lived experience that deserve to be heard, honored and uplifted. For too long, the experiences of Black mothers, especially during pregnancy, birth, and throughout motherhood, have not always been fully seen or listened to in the ways they deserve. By sharing their story, our community helps shine a light on what is working, what needs to change and what it truly means to be supported. The stories from Black women can help improve care, strengthen community, and influence change in systems and policies so that future generations of Black mothers are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

Make the Commitment

Black maternal health is a community responsibility. Creating change requires all of us to listen, learn, support and advocate. We invite community members, partners, and allies to commit to listening to Black women’s voices, learning from their experiences, and taking action to support respectful, equitable care. Together, we can help build systems and communities where Black mothers are heard, valued and treated with dignity and compassion.
