West Substation & SAFFE Unit

The West Service Area is a large geographic area, with a diverse population that includes:

• Numerous green spaces and parks including Woodlawn Lake with its annual 4th of July celebration
• Government Canyon State Park

Commercial enterprises including:

• Ingram Park mall
• Historic shops and restaurants
• Entertainment and sports at SeaWorld and Mission Stadium

The West Service area is also home to intellectual endeavors including:

• St. Mary’s University
• Southwest Research Institute

Westside neighborhoods include:

• The Deco District
• Las Palmas
• University Park
• Memorial
• Heritage & Jefferson neighborhoods

SAFFE

Each substation includes a San Antonio Fear Free Environment (SAFFE) Unit with officers assigned to specific streets or neighborhoods. SAFFE officers work with residents, businesses, community leaders, and patrol officers to help prevent crimes before they happen. SAFFE officer duties include:

• Identify and resolve problems
• Act as liaisons with other City agencies
• Participate in school and youth outreach programs
• Coordinate graffiti removal
• Provide crime prevention resources to residents
