East Substation & SAFFE Unit

SAPD East Substation

The East Service area is made up of a dynamic and welcoming group of neighborhoods and businesses. It hosts the nation’s largest annual MLK March and Celebration every January at Pittman-Sullivan Park with organizers estimating 300,000 attendees.

San Antonio’s Park system has many hidden gems on the East Side and owns a portion of the Howard W. Peak Greenway Trails System. The historic Hays Street Bridge offers panoramic views of the Alamo City skyline.

Our East Side neighborhoods include many active and engaged communities:

  • Denver Heights
  • Government Hill
  • Jupe Manor
  • Highland Park
  • Northeast Crossing

Adjacent to SAPD’s East Service Area is JBSA-Sam Houston, a proud reminder of why San Antonio is Military City USA.

SAFFE

Each substation includes a San Antonio Fear Free Environment (SAFFE) Unit with officers assigned to specific streets or neighborhoods. SAFFE officers work with residents, businesses, community leaders, and patrol officers to help prevent crimes before they happen. SAFFE officer duties include:

  • Identify and resolve problems
  • Act as liaisons with other City agencies
  • Participate in school and youth outreach programs
  • Coordinate graffiti removal
  • Provide crime prevention resources to residents
