About the Team

Our mission is to ensure the safety of the public while facilitating development for affordable housing projects. The Affordable Housing Team coordinates, conducts, and monitors plan review and inspections for any permits receiving bond or grant funding by the federal, state or local affordable housing initiatives.

The City of San Antonio has been developing the Affordable Housing initiative since August 2017 to provide quality affordable housing to all citizens regardless of income level. This team was created in response to the priorities laid out by the Mayor, City Council and the City Manager to facilitate this initiative.

Affordable Housing Initiatives

Affordable housing initiatives help ensure that households earning at or below the Area Median Income (AMI), whether measured federally or locally, have access to reasonably priced housing.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines affordable housing as housing where an occupant spends less than 30% of gross income, including utilities, on housing costs.
