The Vendor Development Academy, formerly the Mentor‑Protégé Program, is a free, one‑year training program designed to strengthen small local businesses by:

  • enhancing their capacity
  • improving contracting readiness
  • and fostering strategic mentorships in both public and private sectors.

Offered in partnership with Alamo Colleges, the academy provides guidance, training, and business development support. Participants are paired with an experienced business mentor who helps them gain industry insights, refine operations, and expand contracting opportunities. In addition to mentorship, participants complete at least six courses through Alamo Colleges and take part in events aimed at building their capacity and strengthening their business skills.

Getting Started

The Economic Development Department and Alamo Colleges will host two information sessions regarding the program and the application.
