Director, Brenda Hicks-Sorensen

Career

Brenda Hicks-Sorensen, CEcD, was appointed director of the Economic Development Department (EDD) for the City of San Antonio in July 2021. She oversees all EDD functions and numerous programs, including:

  • Administration & Operations
  • Small Business
  • Supplier Engagement
  • Business Advancement
  • Community Vitality and Global Engagement

Prior to joining the City of San Antonio, Brenda served as the Assistant Economic Development Director with the City of Fort Worth, Texas for five years.

Prior to her time in Texas, Brenda served in economic development leadership positions in Nebraska and Wisconsin. She also started a consulting business supporting economic and community development organizations.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Sociology, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh
  • Master of Science in Urban Studies with an emphasis in Public Policy and Economic Development, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
  • Certified Economic Developer (CEcD)
