Honorary Consul of France in San Antonio
Damien Watel is a French-born chef and restaurateur based in San Antonio, Texas. He serves as the Honorary Consul of France in San Antonio, with his consular office located at his restaurant, Bistr09, in Alamo Heights.
Watel trained at Ecole de Cuisine Promhote in Paris and began his U.S. culinary career in Dallas before establishing himself in San Antonio.
Over the past 25 years, he has launched several acclaimed restaurants, including Bistro Vatel, Ciao Lavanderia and La Frite Belgian Bistro.
Bistr09, his ninth venture, is a modern French brasserie co-owned with his wife, Chef Lisa Astorga-Watel. Together, they continue to influence San Antonio's culinary scene.
