Fire Prevention Division

NOTE: Effective October 1, 2026, SAFD's Fire Prevention Inspection, Investigation, and Permitting fees will increase by 15 percent. This increase follows the City of San Antonio's Fiscal Year 2027 budget, passed on September 17, 2026.

The Fire Marshal leads the Fire Prevention Division and provides a fire-safe environment for the citizens of San Antonio.

The division creates this fire-safe environment through three key areas of service:

Fire Code Development & Enforcement: The Inspections Division is responsible for Fire Code adoption, inspection, and revision. The City of San Antonio has adopted the 2024 International Fire Code with amendments.
Permits & Inspections: Learn about the types of fire inspections and permits and what is required. Submit an inspection request.
Public Education: Community Safety and Education encourages children and their families to live safe, healthy lifestyles.
