Historic Plaque Program

Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) provides Historic Structure plaques available for individual local landmarks and contributing properties within local historic districts. The plaques visually identify properties and districts officially recognized by the City of San Antonio for their architectural, historical and cultural significance.

San Antonio currently has 32 local historic districts containing more than 8,600 properties and more than 1,500 individual local landmarks.

About Historic Plaques

  • Fee: $95
  • Appearance: Cast aluminum with raised silver letters on a dark gray background.
  • Size: Approximately 7 1/2 inches in diameter and 1/4 inch thick.

Step 1.Submit an Application

To apply for a plaque, please submit a Certificate of Appropriateness application.

Select Work Type & Provide Details

  • For Work Type, scroll down and select Plaque Program.
  • In the field for a detailed description, simply type in install plaque.
  • Attach a current photo of the house from the street.

Step 2.Pay the Invoice

Once you submit the application, a member of staff will send you an invoice. It will come from AR-Invoices@sanantonio.gov and include a PDF attachment.

To pay the invoice:
  1. Open the PDF and scroll to the bottom of the first page.
  2. Click the link to pay online.

Step 3.Pick Up Your Plaque

Once you've paid, OHP staff will be notified via email and will reach out to you to schedule a time for a curbside pick-up.
