Career

Cory Edwards was appointed Interim Director of the Office of Historic Preservation in February 2026. As Director and Historic Preservation Officer, he oversees:

  • Design review process for historic properties, Downtown, and River Improvement Overlay Districts
  • Heritage programs administered by OHP including local markers, cultural heritage recognition, and the Legacy Business Program
  • The Deconstruction and Circular Economy Program
  • Public engagement in local preservation and heritage
  • Project coordination and archaeology under the Antiquities Code of Texas

Cory has more than 18 years of experience in historic preservation and cultural resource management in both the public and private sectors. He has served at the City of San Antonio since 2012, and in that time, has overseen the development of historic design guidelines, policy and code updates, and process improvements.
