A Month on Two Wheels: San Antonio Celebrates Bike Month
Published on April 30, 2026
On a Sunday morning, Broadway transforms. Cars give way to families, music, and the steady rhythm of bike wheels rolling through the heart of the city. That's how Bike Month begins in San Antonio — active, connected and full of energy!
The celebration kicks off with Síclovía, where a stretch of Broadway opens to people of all ages and abilities. Whether you're walking, riding, or just taking it all in, it’s a reminder of what our streets can feel like when they’re designed for everyone. Stop by our booth near Lion's Field Senior Center to join the fun — you might even ride away with a Fiesta Medal.
From there, the focus shifts to the next generation of riders. At Roosevelt Dual Language Academy, students will start their day on May 6 walking and biking to school, building healthy habits and learning how to navigate their neighborhoods safely. They’ll be joined by a familiar face — Coney, the traffic cone mascot — bringing a little extra excitement to the morning commute.
As the month continues, Bike to Work Week highlights the role cycling plays in everyday life. It’s not just recreation — it's transportation. On Bike to Work Day, May 15, commuters passing through downtown in the early morning can stop at Legacy Park for a quick boost at our energizer station. It’s a small way to celebrate the growing number of people choosing to ride to work and to support them along the way.
City leadership will also recognize Bike Month with an official proclamation at Municipal Plaza, reinforcing a shared commitment to safer, more accessible streets for everyone.
While these events bring people together, they also point to something bigger: lasting improvements to how we move around the city. Within a month, construction will be underway on Camden Street, marking the first bike project coming directly from the Bike Network Plan, adopted in 2025. The new protected bike lane — separated by concrete barriers — will create a safer connection between the Museum Reach area and the Pearl, while helping to calm traffic along the corridor. It’s a meaningful step toward a more connected and bike-friendly San Antonio.
Bike Month is more than a series of events — it's a reflection of a city in motion. Whether you ride every day or you're just getting back on a bike, there's a place for you in this movement.
