Director

Catherine Hernandez was appointed Director for the Transportation Department in February 2024. She had served as the Interim Director since May 2023 after joining the Transportation Department as Interim Assistant Director in July 2022. She is responsible for the planning, directing and oversight of operations, including the administration of the Vision Zero program to eliminate traffic fatalities and enhance safety of our transportation system. The Director also leads efforts to update and create a robust Bike Network for safer bike facilities, and she facilitates this by coordinating with other City Departments and state and local partner agencies.

Catherine has been with the City of San Antonio since 2000 and has worked in various city departments such as Planning, City Manager’s Office, OMB/Innovation, and Development Services. She holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Mary’s University.
