San Antonio is committed to walkable, transit-friendly neighborhoods. The Transportation Department is launching a Walkshed Analysis focused on the new VIA Rapid Green Line. This project looks at how easy — or hard — it is to walk to key transit stations today. It also helps to see what needs to change to make those walks safer, more comfortable and more accessible for everyone.
In the second half of 2025, the team will assess conditions around four Green Line stations:
They will inspect areas in person and use detailed maps. This will help them to see where sidewalks end, crossings are missing or barriers make walking difficult. The project will help the team to see how far someone can realistically walk to and from a transit station. The findings will be used in a step-by-step plan for improvement.
This project was developed with public input from the TOP Framework and is a key part of making San Antonio’s transit-oriented vision a reality — one sidewalk, crosswalk and shaded path at a time.
