Director

Career

Catherine "Cat" Hernandez was appointed Director for the Transportation Department in February 2024. She served as the Interim Director since May 2023 after joining the Transportation Department as Interim Assistant Director in July 2022.

In her role, she is responsible for overseeing:

• The implementation of the recently updated 2024 Vision Zero SA strategy to eliminate traffic fatalities and enhance safety of our transportation system.
• The implementation of the recently updated 2024 Complete Streets Policy.
• The implementation of the Transit-Oriented Policy Framework adopted by City Council in December 2024.
• The implementation of the Bike Network Plan adopted by Council in January 2025 for safer bike facilities.

Catherine has been with the City of San Antonio since 2000 and has worked in various city departments such as Planning, City Manager's Office, OMB/Innovation, and Development Services.
