The Military Transformation Task Force (MTTF) is the San Antonio region’s forum where Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) and National Guard senior military commanders inform key public officials and community stakeholders of requirements, challenges and opportunities to preserve and increase military missions, increase operational readiness, support mission partners, protect military installations from urban encroachment, and improve the region’s military-friendly environment.

Focus Areas

Force Requirements:

  • Monitor/report Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) actions
  • Assess JBSA’s  base(s)/mission(s) vulnerability to realignment and/or closure
  • Determine JBSA’s military mission competitors
  • Determine JBSA’s ability to absorb additional missions
  • Determine if non DoD organizations/locations can absorb military mission growth (Port San Antonio, Kelly Field etc.)
  • Analyze/quantify savings and cost avoidance due to community support
  • Monitor implementation of  Regional Joint Land Use (JLUS) recommendations
  • Plan for worst-case scenario – Loss of military missions/installations.

 
Community relations and Public Outreach:

  • Communicate to key stake holders/public:
    - The military's missions as indispensable to national defense (include the National Guard’s)
    - The Department of Defense’s economic impact to the San Antonio community and State of Texas
    Ongoing BRAC preparations
    - Community’s tangible support of the military through infrastructure projects, advocacy, and mission protection
    - How the community can support
  • Maintain/update regional military economic impact study
  • Communicate/highlight the military presence in San Antonio and worldwide events (Hurricane Harvey Relief, etc.)
  • Support other MTTF Committees in their efforts to reach key audiences
