About

The Veterans Advisory Committee (VAC) is seeking nominations for Veteran(s) of the Year between November 2023 and September 2024.

The Veteran(s) of the Year Award is for:

  • outstanding individual service to other veterans.
  • notable achievements that benefit community and civic organizations and their activities.

This award recognizes a veteran from each city district and one city-employed veteran regardless of rank from the U.S. Armed Forces.

The nominated individual must:

  • have had an honorable discharge.
  • live and/or work in Bexar County.
  • be aware of their nomination.

Nominations will be accepted from:

  • any resident of Bexar County.
  • any veterans service organizations.
  • business owners and/or Chambers of Commerce.

Eligibility

The award is based on documented acts of selfless service. Selfless service consists of deeds and actions on behalf of others and going the "extra mile" beyond their job and post military career.

Examples of selfless service include:

  • regular acts of kindness and caring for others.
  • hospital, home and shut-in visitations.
  • community service and projects.
  • charity work.
  • volunteerism with youth programs.
