Director, Scott Jackson

Career

Major General (Ret.) Scott Jackson serves as Director of Military and Veteran Affairs (MVAD) for the City of San Antonio. In this role, he leads the City's advocacy on behalf of the military, veteran and defense communities of San Antonio — home to the largest concentration of military installations and defense activity in the Western Hemisphere.

A retired U.S. Army Major General with 34 years of active-duty service, including more than four years deployed in combat zones, Jackson commanded at every echelon — from a 36-person platoon to multi-thousand-member enterprise organizations. He most recently served as Chief of Staff, U.S. Southern Command, integrating the operations of a 1,000-person joint headquarters and eight subordinate commands across 42 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, directing crisis and humanitarian response efforts — including relief operations in Haiti — and overseeing nearly $1 billion in fiscal resources.

He also commanded the Security Force Assistance Command at Fort Bragg and served as the founding commander of the Army's 1st Security Force Assistance Brigade at Fort Benning, which he built from concept to global deployment in under nine months. Earlier in his career, he served as the Army's Director of Legislative Affairs for the Senate, the service's principal liaison to the United States Senate.

Since retiring from active duty, Jackson has continued to advise public- and private-sector organizations on organizational transformation, talent strategy, and leadership development. Prior to returning to public service, he was the Chief Operating Officer for a technology-based utility management company. Concurrently, he participates in the Department of Defense's Highly Qualified Expert (HQE) program supporting global readiness exercises.

He has completed additional executive and fellowship programs, including Data-Driven Decision Making & Artificial Intelligence at the MIT Sloan School of Business, a National Security Studies Fellowship at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, and the Battlefield to Boardroom Certification from the National Association of Corporate Directors.
