The Language Access Office (LAO) provides guidance and resources to departments and residents to support accessible communications for linguistically diverse residents. LAO supports departments to reduce language barriers so that all can have meaningful access to programs and services.
This aligns with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the City of San Antonio Non-Discrimination Ordinance. LAO also leads the management and provisioning of the City’s language service contracts.
City departments will provide program information and key services in other languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), when needed and requested. These services are provided at no cost to the person seeking services.
For general information about city government services, please dial 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000 and ask for an interpreter. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1 and ask for an interpreter. Tell the operator your location and the language you need. Do not hang up while waiting for an interpreter.
You have the right to access City programs and services in your language. If you believe city services, activities or programs were withheld or denied to you on a discriminatory basis, you may file a complaint through the Discrimination Complaints process.
