biography

Andrew Gutierrez became one of two Assistant Directors in 2021. Today he oversees and leads divisions over the following: environmental compliance, heavy equipment and off- road fleet operations, recycling and organic material cart inspections, brush and bulky item collections, brush grinding operations and sites, four bulky-item drop-off centers, downtown litter basket collection, dead animal collection, and the multi-family recycling program.

Career

Andrew started his career with the City of San Antonio’s Solid Waste Management Department in 1992. For the past 30 years he has worked his way up through the ranks, serving and exceling in many capacities. He has held numerous managerial and supervisory positions in the areas of residential collections, the transition from manual to automated collection, warehouse operations, event recycling, downtown collections, citywide brush and bulky-item collection, and the brush grinding sites. He also led post-storm recovery efforts locally and in Houston after Hurricane Harvey. Andrew brings a wealth of institutional knowledge, experience, and professionalism to the department

Personal

Mr. Gutierrez is married to his lovely wife Teresa whom he has two adult children, Steven and Amanda. He is also the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren. Andrew enjoys spending quality time with his now large family.
