Alumni Testimonials

“Being a part of the Management Fellowship, was a huge turning point in my life. I am originally from New York, and I moved to San Antonio, Texas for this amazing opportunity. During the fellowship I was able to rotate through the Department of Human Services, Office of Management & Budget, and the City Manager’s Office. This is where I got to work on amazing projects that directly helped so many people. Not only did this program introduce me to such amazing people in and out of local government, but I also got to experience such a diverse culture. I was also given the tools to build on my professional development including the Women’s Leadership and Mentorship Program and the Black African American Affinity Group. Overall, taking part in this fellowship gave me the opportunity to stay within local government and become a Senior Management Analyst for the Department of Human Services. Everything has come full circle and I believe that everyone should be a part of something this important.”

“As a San Antonio native, I was excited by the prospect of participating in the City of San Antonio’s Management Fellowship program. It allowed me to learn about the critical functions of the City and give back to the community that helped raise me. This program is unique because it gives participants a wide breadth of exposure to various career paths in local government and the chance to interact with executive level personnel in the City. This program excels in mentoring Fellows while giving them hands-on experience with high-impact projects and initiatives. One such moment for me was when I was selected to be a part of the Tricentennial Department during the historical 300th year celebration, commemorating the founding of San Antonio. For anyone considering a career in local government, the City’s Management Fellowship is a strong and dynamic program that offers participants amazing opportunities to excel.”

The city provides not just mentorship, but a holistic environment for growth, offering guidance, resources and opportunities that are unparalleled. “The Management Fellowship Program offered me the opportunity to work on significant projects in several city departments while learning firsthand from leaders in one of the largest municipalities with a Council-Manager form of government. The knowledge and opportunities I gained through this program allowed me to advance my career in the city. During my fellowship, I had the chance to meet and work with staff at various levels that demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to their community. I view many of these colleagues as close friends today, and I am proud both of my time as a Fellow and for the career I’ve had with the City thus far.”
