Maria Vargas-Yates, Director of ICSO

Career

Maria Vargas-Yates was appointed Director of the Integrated Community Safety Office in 2024.

Maria joined the City of San Antonio in 2017 as supervisor of the Identification Office in the San Antonio Police Department. In 2021, she served as a Public Safety Innovation Specialist and then as the interim Public Safety Innovation Administrator with the Information & Technology Services Department where she provided guidance on the strategic utilization of public safety data and the development of new reporting frameworks for the San Antonio Police Department.

Prior to joining the City, Maria was Senior Intelligence Liaison for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) command staff in Kabul, Afghanistan. She supported NATO's mission to train and advise the Afghan National Army and Afghan National Police. She later functioned as Lead Analyst in the Threat Intelligence Cell for U.S. Forces Command at Bagram Airfield.
