SA Climate Ready 2035

Since adopting the SA Climate Ready (SACR) Plan in 2019, our City has built a strong foundation for climate mitigation through efforts like planting more trees to grow the urban canopy, expanding the network of places to stay cool, and investing in solar and energy efficiency projects in City-owned buildings. However, we must revisit this plan alongside our community and partners to continue to protect against worsening climate extremes.

This work requires that we continue to acknowledge our existing vulnerabilities and identify high-impact opportunities for improving our resilience. Without a plan, residents absorb the full shock of climate stress alone. By treating climate adaptation as a matter of public health and economic survival, cities can transform systemic vulnerabilities into shared, lasting security.

Goals

Goals of the SACR 2035 Plan include:

Enhance the 2019 Plan while engaging and educating the community.
Validate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) reduction target based on current climate science and best practices.
Develop prioritized implementation plan focused on short and mid-term strategies.
Strengthen tracking indicators to ensure transparent plan implementation.
Use real-time visualization tools as part of the plan update process and ongoing implementation tracking and reporting.
Evaluate the cost-benefit of priority implementation measures.
