About the Centers
Need help managing debt, improving your credit, or saving for future goals? The San Antonio Financial Empowerment Centers (FECs), established in 2013, offer free, professional financial counseling to all residents, regardless of income level. Services are available in English and Spanish.
Personalized Financial Guidance
Certified financial counselors offer one-on-one support to help you take control of your finances. You can meet with a counselor as often as needed, typically with about two weeks between appointments.
First Session: 1 to 1.5 hours
Follow-up sessions: 30 minutes to 1 hour
Counselors can help you:
- Manage and reduce debt.
- Deal with debt collectors.
- Improve or restore your credit.
- Build your savings.
- Create and stick to a budget.
- Find safe, affordable financial products.
- Develop a personalized financial action plan.
What to Expect
Your first session focuses on understanding your current financial situation and goals. You’re not required to bring documents, but items like pay stubs, account statements, bills, or other financial records can be helpful.
Sessions take place at FEC centers and select satellite locations. Phone sessions are also available once disclosure forms are signed prior to your first appointment.
Certified & Experienced Counselors
All FEC counselors are trained and certified through the Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Fund curriculum. Each counselor:
- Holds a bachelor's degree or 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Completes specialized CFE training.
- Passes certification exams.
Community Presentations
While FEC counseling is always one-on-one, representatives are available to offer presentations for community groups interested in learning more about financial wellness and FEC services.
To schedule a presentation, please contact your nearest Financial Empowerment Center directly.
