Park History

The City of San Antonio changed a 12.9-acre area from an old gravel pit that Bexar County used to own. In 1920, they called it Roosevelt Park to honor President Theodore Roosevelt. Then in 1928, it became Lambert Park, named after Parks Commissioner Ray Lambert. They switched the original Roosevelt name to the former Riverside Park, which the City got from private owners.

The City of San Antonio made Roosevelt/Lambert Park to help the nearby neighborhoods. In the 1920s, the City added a library, a swimming pool, and tennis courts. The SouthSide Improvement League wanted swings and benches, so they got added. In the 1940s, Lambert Park became Roosevelt Park again, and the nearby park and golf course became Riverside once more.
