Career

Alejandra “Alex” Lopez was appointed Assistant City Manager for the City of San Antonio on March 22, 2021. In her role, she oversees the Economic Development Department, Convention & Sports Facilities, and Pre-K for SA.

Lopez has over fifteen years of service to the City of San Antonio. Before becoming Assistant City Manager, she served as Director and Deputy Director of Economic Development and as the City’s Interim Chief Equity Officer.

During her tenure, she has led key initiatives in:

  • small business
  • workforce development
  • industry development
  • global engagement
  • redesigning the City’s Small Business Economic Development Advocacy Program (SBEDA)
  • the development of Launch SA

During her interim assignment as Chief Equity Officer, Lopez worked to advance equity in budgeting, community engagement, and program and service delivery. Throughout the years, she has also served in various departments supporting capital improvements, intergovernmental relations, and community services.

Alex is a native of Del Rio, Texas. She and her husband, Kenneth, have two children, Jordan and Gabriela.
