MLK Scholarship Recipients

Each year, the MLK, Jr. Commission administers the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Program. These scholarships help fund a portion of college tuition for students, regardless of race or ethnicity.

The MLK Commission does not have sponsorship affiliation with Dreamweek nor the San Antonio MLK Foundation.

 

Eligibility Guidelines

To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Complete and submit the online application
  • Be graduating from Bexar County
  • Be a graduating Senior for the current upcoming year
  • Complete all application items. Do not leave any blanks. For items not applicable, write "N/A" or “none.”
  • Include two letters of recommendation. The letters must be written by one of the following:
    • Counselor or teacher of an academic course.
    • Your employer, clergy person or extra-curricular sponsor (Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts, pep squad sponsor, etc.)
  • Submit an official high school transcript through midterm of the school year

A complete application submission must include the following:

  1. Completed MLK Scholarship Application form
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. Official transcript postmarked by application deadline (February 24, 2023)

NOTE: Items 1 and 2 must be submitted together electronically. Only official transcript may be mailed in.

  • The deadline to submit your application is Friday, February 24, 2023 at 5:00 p.m

Application Workshops

All Graduating Bexar County High School Seniors are invited to participate in the MLK Scholarship Virtual Workshop. These workshops are designed to educate students on how to navigate the MLK Scholarship process. Students are supplied with the tools and resources that will help them stand out in an applicant pool and Maximize their scholarship success. Please note that space is limited 

Workshop Dates:

  • Wednesday, December 14, 2022, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 17, 2022, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
  • Saturday, January 7, 2023, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, January 11, 2023, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, February 4, 2023, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday February 8, 2023, 2023, 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

Finalist Interviews

The MLK Commission Scholarship Committee will reach out to schedule interviews with all finalists.
