Free event features a special ceremony and family-friendly activities for all ages.

SAN ANTONIO (December 8, 2025) — The Semmes Branch Library, 15060 Judson Road, is 20 years old! To celebrate, San Antonio Public Library (SAPL) will host an anniversary celebration filled with free activities for the whole family on Saturday, December 13.
The event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with a speaking ceremony reflecting on the history and community impact of the Semmes Branch. Free, family-friendly activities will follow, including a goat petting zoo, balloon art, outdoor yard games, cement mold painting and a photo booth. Children’s crafts will include building bird feeders and festive paper streamers. SAPL mascot Smarty will also be in attendance.
Several activities will showcase the Semmes Branch Library’s expansive, recently improved patio featuring interactive outdoor musical instruments. The extensive renovation also included adding patio space, seating, and two outdoor chess tables.
Semmes Branch Library first opened its doors on November 5, 2005. It is named in honor of Julia Yates Semmes, who experienced vision loss, learned how to live independently, and advocated for resources for others with vision disabilities. In 2000, the Semmes Foundation donated $1 million to the San Antonio Public Library Foundation to create an endowment that supports a special collection, including books and equipment for the visually impaired.
