Mayor Unveils Commission on Voting Report

SAN ANTONIO (July 8, 2026) – Today, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones released a report provided by the Mayor’s Commission on Voting, containing recommendations to increase voter participation and strengthen civic engagement across San Antonio.

“As our nation marked 250 years, San Antonio has both an opportunity and an obligation to ensure that every eligible resident has a real path to vote at the ballot,” said Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. “The recommendations in this report give our city a starting point to empowering voter participation and strengthening civic engagement in our city for generations.” 

Background

The Mayor's Commission on Voting was established to examine barriers to civic participation in San Antonio and to develop actionable recommendations that strengthen voter access and engagement. 

Over the course of its work, the Commission reviewed local and national research, examined voter participation trends, worked collaboratively with community stakeholders, and evaluated best practices from municipalities across the country.

Next Steps

The Mayor’s Office will review the recommendations and work with City staff, City Council, and the community to determine next steps on the recommendations.
