District 9 Councilwoman Hosts “Coats of Kindness” Drive

SAN ANTONIO (December 8, 2025) — The Office of Councilwoman Misty Spears is hosting a Coats of Kindness coat drive from December 1 through December 17, collecting new or gently used coats to support domestic violence survivors, children, and families in need across San Antonio.
Coats collected through the drive will be distributed to Corazon San Antonio and Family Violence Prevention Services – The Battered Women and Children Shelter, two local organizations that serve families experiencing crisis during the winter months.
According to Family Violence Prevention Services, nearly two-thirds of the domestic violence survivors they serve are children, underscoring the urgent need for necessities like winter clothing as temperatures drop.
“As colder weather sets in, something as simple as a warm coat can provide comfort and dignity to families navigating incredibly difficult circumstances,” said Councilwoman Spears. “This drive reflects what is possible when our community comes together to support survivors, especially children.”
In addition to community donations, the initiative is supported by monetary contributions from various donors. These funds are helping expand the impact of the drive and ensure coats reach families throughout multiple areas of the city.
The Office of Councilwoman Spears is also using the initiative to raise awareness about what constitutes domestic violence, noting that abuse can be physical, emotional, financial, or controlling in nature, and that many families may not realize help is available.
Residents are encouraged to donate new or gently used coats at the following drop-off locations through December 17.
