SAN ANTONIO (October 18, 2024) – Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, this evening, SAPD will release videos from two separate Officer Involved Shootings that occurred on September 19, 2024. Below is a brief synopsis of the two critical incidents:
1) 2800 block of Babcock Rd. Officers responded to several 911 calls reporting an individual walking around waving a handgun in the air. Officers located a female holding a gun and commanded her to drop it. The female refused, threatened the officers and raised the gun in the officers’ direction. One officer discharged his firearm, striking the suspect. EMS arrived and transported the suspect to a local hospital. It was later determined that the suspect’s weapon was an airsoft gun. The suspect identified as 38 -year- old Janelle Harris was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault – Peace Officer and two counts of Obstruction/Retaliation. Officer Jaren Falcon #1881 has 4 months of service.
2) 1500 Cantrell Drive. SAPD Robbery Task Force Unit detectives and Street Crimes Unit officers were conducting surveillance on an individual wanted for an Aggravated Robbery warrant. Soon after, the suspect committed an aggravated robbery at a convenience store, SCU officers conducted a traffic stop of the suspect’s vehicle at West Harding and Clamp Ave. The driver was taken into custody; however, the suspect sitting in the passenger seat, entered the driver’s seat and drove away. The suspect then fled on foot into a wooded area. Eagle located the suspect and directed officers towards the suspect. Officers located the suspect against a fence and commanded him to drop the gun. The suspect raised his gun, and several officers discharged their firearms striking the suspect. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Roberto Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger Naomi Garcia was arrested and charged with Aggravated Robbery.
