Critical Incident Video Release: 200 Birchwood

SAN ANTONIO (April 15, 2025) – Consistent with our Critical Incident Video Release Procedure, SAPD is releasing video from the Officer Involved Shooting that occurred on March 16, 2025, at the 200 block of Birchwood Dr.

Around 7:00 p.m., an SAPD officer in full uniform and in a marked patrol vehicle initiated a traffic stop on Loop 410 EB. The suspect vehicle exited at Vance Jackson and stopped at a gas station. The suspect, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, exited the vehicle and ran from the officer, dropping a black backpack. The officer chased after the suspect on foot and caught up to him at a home on the 200 block of Birchwood Dr. The officer observed a knife on the suspect’s hip and tased the suspect to no effect. The officer dropped his taser and the suspect walked towards the officer and picked up the taser. The officer fired several rounds, striking the suspect. Life-saving measures were attempted until EMS arrived, but the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Miguel Morin, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The recovered suspect’s backpack contained a handgun and narcotics. No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
