SAN ANTONIO (January 25, 2026) – As severe cold weather continues, the City of San Antonio is providing updated information on places to stay warm and City services available to residents.

Places to Stay Warm

Senior Centers: All City Senior Centers will be open Monday, January 26, 2026, as Places to Stay Warm, offering all residents a safe indoor space during the cold weather.

To support this emergency use, senior center transportation, meals, and scheduled activities will be canceled for the day, allowing centers to focus on providing a warm space for the community.

Libraries and Park Community Centers: All Libraries and Park Community Centers will be open on Monday, January 26, 2026, during regular hours and will serve as places to stay warm.

Resilience Hubs Transitioning to Regular Hours

City Resilience Hubs will remain open through noon Monday. After that time, these locations will transition into Places to Stay Warm operating under their regular facility hours.

Residents can find the most current list of locations and hours for places to stay warm at SA.gov/ColdWeather or by calling 3-1-1 (210-207-6000).

City Services

Due to the ongoing cold weather event, the City of San Antonio will close some public facilities and scale back most non-essential operations on Monday, January 26, 2026.

The following critical services will remain fully operational to ensure residents continue receiving essential support. These services include:

  • Public Works
  • Animal Care Services Enforcement
  • 311
  • San Antonio International Airport
  • City Homeless Outreach Teams
Facility Closures
  • Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers and Corporate Office, Head Start, and Early Head Start
  • All Bulky Waste drop-off centers (Bitters, Frio City Rd, and Rigsby)
  • Household Hazardous Waste drop-off center (Culebra)
  • Animal Care Services (ACS) shelter
  • San Antonio Municipal Court 
  • All Metro Health clinics and offices
  • Carver Community Cultural Center 
  • Alamodome Offices and Box Office  
  • La Villita and Market Square Administrative Offices 
  • Office of the City Clerk, including Vital Records 
  • Culture Commons Gallery at Plaza de Armas 
  • Centro de Artes Gallery at Market Square 
  • Spanish Governors Palace

Additionally, all City meetings scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026, are canceled.

Solid Waste Services Operating with Possible Delays

Solid Waste Services collection crews will be on duty Monday. However, collections may have a delayed start depending on road conditions and weather impacts. Residents are encouraged to continue placing carts out as scheduled.

The Bitters Brush Center at 1800 Wurzbach Pkwy will open two hours late at 10 a.m. on Monday.

San Antonio International Airport

As of Sunday, at 3:45 p.m., San Antonio International Airport has reported 70 flight cancellations and 51 delays for today, with an additional 14 flights already canceled for Monday. Airport staff continue to closely monitor flight operations and weather conditions to ensure the safety of all travelers.

If travel is necessary, please use caution. Before departing for the airport, passengers should check the status of their flight with their airline or at FlySanAntonio.com and allow extra travel time to the airport.

Animal Care Services

Since Friday, Animal Care Services has received 915 calls, including 396 related to cruelty concerns. During this period, ACS has taken in 77 dogs and eight cats to the shelter. Staff will continue caring for animals on campus, and Animal Care Officers will remain on patrol to respond to animal-related emergencies throughout the cold weather event.

Public Works

Public Works crews have been actively monitoring roadway conditions in real time and have implemented temporary closures on six roads where travel is unsafe. If you must drive, please slow down, use extra caution on bridges and overpasses, and avoid travel if conditions worsen. Residents can find the latest road closure information at: gis.sanantonio.gov/TCI/StreetClosures

The City will continue to operate its 311 phone line 24 hours a day through Monday to take calls overnight. Residents can call 3-1-1 (210-207-6000) for help finding a place to stay warm, transportation to and from these locations, and to report an animal left outside in the cold. 

The City will continue monitoring conditions and sharing updates as needed. Residents are urged to stay informed, limit travel when possible, and check on vulnerable neighbors.
