Get/give fan relief for older adults this summer: Summer months – June through September – inflict considerably high temperatures and humidity in San Antonio. Older adults living in homes without air conditioning or circulating air face a greater risk of heat-related injuries and fatalities during the summer.
Project Cool provides heat relief to residents 60 years of age and older across the city through donation and free distribution of 20-inch box fans to older adults in need.
Since 1997, the following partners have participated in this program:
Adults who are 60 years of age and older, current San Antonio residents and show critical need for a box fan are eligible to receive a fan free of charge.
Call 2-1-1 (United Way Helpline) to request a box fan. Fan supplies are limited by donations received during the summer.
Every fan donated can provide relief during dangerous heat and help an older adult remain safe at home. Whether you donate a new 20-inch box fan or contribute funds toward fan purchases, your support directly helps seniors in our community.
Purchase a new 20-inch electric box fan at any area retail store. Box fans cost between $20 and $30.
Donations can be dropped off at the locations below:
If you are donating five or fewer 20-inch box fans, please deliver to one of the San Antonio Fire Department Stations, except Fire Station #23 at the Airport.
If you are donating more than five 20-inch box fans, please contact Catholic Charities of San Antonio at 210-222-1294 for more information.
You can also donate monetary contributions toward the purchase of box fans for older adults. To donate, mail a check in any amount payable to “Project Cool c/o Catholic Charities” and send to the address below.
