Grant Opportunities

Funding opportunities are offered through the Department of Arts & Culture and San Antonio Film Commission. The Commission does not maintain information about private investors for project funding purposes.

Artist Grants

Arts & Culture offers Artist Grants to San Antonio-based professional artists (including filmmakers) working in literary arts, media arts, multi-disciplinary arts, performing arts and visual arts. Artists can apply individually, as part of a collaboration, collective or ensemble.

Film Festival Funding Program

This program aims to support the growth of San Antonio’s film culture by:

• strengthening marketing efforts
• expanding business opportunities
• fostering festivals with international reach, workforce development, networking and film market impact

Available to nonprofit organizations producing film festivals, the application window for the next cycle will open in 2027 for a three-year funding cycle. Grant awards may cover up to 20% of a festival’s annual budget, with a maximum award of $15,000, contingent on the availability of City funds.

Other Funding Opportunities

• The Texas Film Commission has also compiled a list of external grants, scholarships and other funding opportunities available to filmmakers that are administrated by organizations across Texas and the United States.
• San Antonio-based National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures manages an annual grant program that filmmakers can apply for.
• The State of Texas manages the Media Production Development Zone (MPDZ) program which is a tax incentive that provides a two-year sales and use tax exemption for the construction, improvement or renovation of a qualified media production facility.
