¡La Causa Sigue! 27th Annual César E. Chávez March for Justice Set for March 25
SAN ANTONIO (March 7, 2023) — Today, the César E, Chávez Legacy & Educational Foundation (CECLEF) joined community leaders to announce plans for the 27th annual Cesar E. Chavez March for Justice, scheduled for Saturday, March 25, 2023. This year’s March for Justice brings thousands of San Antonians to walk in honor of the legacy of Cesar Chavez, the great humanitarian and civil rights leader who worked tirelessly for Latinos and working families. “It’s inspiring to see how the César E. Chávez March for justice, a longtime San Antonio tradition has evolved and has been embraced by so many in our community, especially our youth,” said Ernest J. Martinez, Chair of CECLEF. “This year, we are strongly encouraging our K – 12 and college students to march alongside our friends, family, community, civic leaders, and elected officials. The March has always been a time to engage in civic participation and advocate for social and economic justice for our communities.” Produced CECLEF in San Antonio, the annual event brings individuals and community groups from all backgrounds for a two-mile march through the heart of downtown San Antonio. This year’s March for Justice theme is Finding True Life Through Service to Others. This year’s Grand Marshals are Interim District 7 Councilwoman Rosie Castro and her sons U.S. Congressman Joaquin Castro and the Hon. Julián Castro, former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The march kicks off at 10 a.m. at the corner of Brazos and Guadalupe Streets (next to the Guadalupe Theater). VIA is providing free transportation to and from the march Participants can ride fare-free to the March from 8 to 10 a.m., Saturday, March 25, from the Alamodome parking lots B and C. Return service will be offered until 2:30 p.m. from Old Bowie Street next to the Institute of Texan Cultures, Gate 4. “As the daughter of migrant farm workers, the César E, Chávez March for Justice is an important celebration to commemorate the farm workers who stood up for better working conditions,” said District 5 Councilwoman Terri Castillo. “This march serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play to carry on the legacy of labor leaders like Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta. When we march together, we say yes to organizing for safe working conditions, a living wage, and a better future for San Antonio.¡Sí se puede!” To recognize the farm worker as essential workers and underscore the awareness of food disparities, participants are encouraged to bring canned goods to the March for Justice to support the “Yes We CAN” food drive. Canned good donations may be donated at the beginning of the march route. The canned goods will be donated to the San Antonio Food Bank.
