Westfall Branch Library celebrates 60 years

Festivities include a ceremonial speaking program and activities for the whole family.
SAN ANTONIO (December 18, 2023) - San Antonio Public Library is celebrating 60 years of Westfall Branch Library on Tuesday, December 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition to family-friendly activities and crafts, the anniversary celebration will include a speaking program beginning at 6 p.m. featuring remarks from San Antonio Public Library Assistant Director Dale McNeill and District 1 Library Trustee Karla Gurgiolo.

- For Teens Only: games, music, and limited-edition buttons
- Learn at SAPL Adult Education Open House

Westfall Branch Library is named for Edward Dixon Westfall, a landowner who bequeathed his estate to the City of San Antonio in support of the public library system. Westfall Branch opened on June 3, 1963, as the first new public library in San Antonio in 33 years and the first major library branch on San Antonio’s booming north side. It has been expanded twice, in 1971 and again in 1995, to meet the needs of a growing community.
Over its sixty-year history, countless San Antonians of all ages have visited and enjoyed the Westfall Branch Library. Westfall is also home to SAPL’s longest-tenured Librarian. In 2023, Children’s Librarian Imelda Merino celebrated her 40th anniversary serving the community. San Antonio Public Library is hosting this anniversary to honor and celebrate a long legacy of library services.
