Voting Begins for the D9 Participatory Budget – Largest of its kind in Texas

SAN ANTONIO (March 8, 2023) – District 9 Residents will have the opportunity to vote on their preferred community projects from March 9 – 18 beginning at 9 a.m.to 9 p.m. each day. More than 145 proposed projects were submitted to the District 9 Office for consideration for the District 9 Participatory Budget (D9PB).

After an analysis of cost and feasibility, the District 9 Citizen Advisory Committee is bringing 28 projects to the final ballot. Projects include infrastructure, park and safety improvements. With $1.5M to fund these potential projects, this makes D9PB the largest participatory budget in the state of Texas.

“The D9 Participatory Budgeting effort has grown tremendously since we started in 2017,” Councilman John Courage, District 9.  “It’s wonderful to see the community interest and involvement grow over the years. Other Districts, and even other cities, should adopt this for their communities. This is a great way to give residents direct control of where their tax dollars are allocated.”

Residents will have an opportunity to review the 28-item ballot before they vote. A weighted average will be used to calculate winners with residents selecting their top five most favorable projects.

More information and the link to vote can be found at D9PB.org.
