Upcoming Downtown Lane Closures

Published on March 14, 2024

Beginning on Monday, March 18, 2024, the southbound lanes of Santa Rosa (from Dolorosa to Cesar Chavez) will be closed for utility and road work. This is in addition to the current closure of northbound traffic between Dolorosa and Cesar Chavez, which will constitute a full roadway closure of Santa Rosa. Westbound and eastbound traffic on Nueva through Santa Rosa should reopen by March 26, 2024. All lanes of Santa Rosa (from Dolorosa and Cesar Chavez) are scheduled to reopen this summer.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. All nearby businesses and facilities remain accessible, including the Public Safety Headquarters and Federal Building. This work is associated with the Zona Cultural Streets 2017 Bond Project which is scheduled for completion in Spring 2025. Also beginning on Monday, March 18, 2024, the northbound lanes of South Alamo Street (from Cesar Chavez to Market) will be closed for utility and road work. A single southbound lane will remain. This will be the traffic configuration through the completion of the project, which is scheduled for Winter 2025. From March 18 through May 2024, southbound traffic will not be able to turn right onto Nueva due to construction at that intersection.

Northbound traffic will be detoured to St. Mary’s Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained along the east side of South Alamo Street. La Villita and The Fairmount Hotel will be accessible by pedestrians via Nueva Street and by pedestrians and cars via Presa Street.

This work is associated with the South Alamo Street 2017 Bond Project. For more information and to sign up for construction updates, visit SASpeakUp.com/SouthAlamo.

City of San Antonio Public Works will continue to notify area residents and business owners of traffic and construction updates through a variety of methods, including in-person visits, public meetings, emails, media outreach, and social media.
