The public is invited to learn about the district and share their stories.

SAN ANTONIO (April 9, 2024) — Cultural Heritage Districts honor the history, culture, and living heritage of San Antonio. Located largely along the Wurzbach corridor near the Medical Center, the Silk Road Cultural Heritage District will highlight and celebrate the rich traditions of the area’s Middle Eastern, North African, and Asian immigrants.

In 2022, District 8 Councilmember Manny Pelaez initiated the creation of the Silk Road Cultural Heritage District, which is San Antonio’s fourth, joining Jefferson Heights, Old Highway 90 / Enrique Barrera Parkway(PDF, 4MB), and the Hockley Cemetery.

The City of San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) invites the public to share knowledge, their vision for the district, and stories about important places and traditions by attending one of two public meetings or providing comments by phone or email at 210-207-0241 or Gloria.Colombrana@sanantonio.gov.

Thursday, April 11, 5 p.m.
Bob Ross Senior Center, 2219 Babcock Rd., 78229

Saturday, May 11, 10 a.m.

During the meetings, OHP will explain cultural heritage districts, facilitate an activity for the public to provide input, and collect questions from the audience or submitted by the public. The second meeting will present the same information in addition to sharing answers and comments from the first meeting. To see details of the public meetings, register, or submit questions, visit SASpeakUp.com/SilkRoad24. All input gathered will be displayed for the public to review and comment on.
