ERCOT has requested voluntary call for conservation

SAN ANTONIO (August 17, 2023) –The City of San Antonio, Bexar County, CPS Energy and SAWS are asking residents to help conserve power as the nation continues to experience excessive heat and high energy demand.

ERCOT has requested a voluntary call for conservation today, Aug. 17, 2023 through 8 p.m. CPS Energy continues to encourage Yellow Day energy conservation tips. Customers should raise thermostats if safe to do so, avoid using large appliances such as washers, dryers, and ovens during peak energy demand. As a reminder, CPS Energy will not disconnect customers for past due balances during extreme weather events, such as heat advisories.

CPS Energy reminds customers they can save energy and control their utility bills by following tips that can be found on the Energy Saving Tips webpage. To stay informed, customers are encouraged to sign up for Energy Alerts or call (210) 353-2222 to provide their emergency contact information for the utility to reach them in the case of an emergency.

San Antonio Water System (SAWS) is working closely with CPS Energy and the City of San Antonio to identify ways to lessen energy use at our facilities. Despite a 40% cutback of Edwards permits by Edwards Aquifer Authority, SAWS is able to meet the needs of our customers by using our diversified portfolio.

We encourage our customers to also lessen energy demands by following Stage 2 watering rules. Customers can save water and reduce bills by following tips at saws.org/wrangle.
