Parks and Recreation Hosts Solar Eclipse Events

Select Parks and Centers are in path of totality


SAN ANTONIO (April 3, 2024) - The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is hosting solar eclipse viewing events on April 8, 2024 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at select parks and centers located along the path of totality. Peak viewing time will be around 1:35 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and plan extra time for traveling and parking. Visitors are welcome to bring lawn chairs, water for yourself, family and dogs, lunch or snacks. Carpooling and use of public transit are highly encouraged. Eclipse viewing sites include: 

  • Eisenhower Park - 19399 NW Military Hwy
  • Garza Community Center *- 1450 Mira Vista
  • Gill Adult & Senior Center - 7902 Westshire Dr
  • Granados Adult & Senior Center - 500 Freiling
  • Medina River Natural Area** - 15890 TX-16
  • Melendrez Community Center* - 5919 W Commerce St
  • Phil Hardberger Park - 8400 NW Military Hwy & 13203 Blanco Rd
  • Ward Community Center* - 435 E Sunshine Dr
  • Yates Community Center* - 568 Rasa Dr

* Activities at community center sites include making pin hole viewers, astronaut training, and space slime! While supplies last. 

**This site will have a partial eclipse view; it is not in the path of totality.

Do not look directly at the sun without eye protection. Free eclipse glasses are available at all Parks and Recreation community centers, adult & senior centers and the Resource Center at Villa Coronado, while supplies last. Each activated viewing site will have a limited number of eclipse glasses available on April 8.
