SAN ANTONIO (May 16, 2023) — "What Lifts You" is an interactive art campaign by internationally known artist Kelsey Montague, whose work is now prominently featured downtown at 4 River Walk (adjacent to the Chamber of Commerce Building).

Painted in March 2023 by Kelsey Montague, the art activation was recently moved to a permanent home on the San Antonio River Walk.  The art piece features a set of butterfly wings with different images depicting the culture of San Antonio and is the first of its kind on the River Walk. The art makes for excellent pictures that admirers can personalize with how they pose for a photo. Visitors are encouraged to take photos and interact with the work and post pictures on social media with the hashtags #WhatLiftsYou, #SAPreservation, and #GetCreativeSA.

This is not the first time Montague has done an installation in San Antonio. In 2015, she had three installations, including her first two installations in color. Kelsey created the artistic wave wings with the River Walk in mind and included five hidden images that are representative of the River Walk and its rich history:

  • Mission Espada, one of five World Heritage San Antonio Spanish colonial missions.
  • The blue panther, part of a legend of the Payaya Indians which held that Yanaguana was a spirit who lived in the headwaters of the San Antonio River
  • The Mexican Freetail bat and the heron represent some of the native wildlife on the San Antonio River.
  • The iconic landmark Tower Life Building representing San Antonio’s historic skyline.

As we approach peak tourism season in San Antonio, the interactive art exhibit is an exciting new addition to the visitor experience on the River Walk.
