Maverick and Great Northwest Branch Libraries set to reopen

Services will resume at both locations in October following improvement projects.


SAN ANTONIO (October 5, 2023) – San Antonio Public Library’s (SAPL) Maverick Branch will reopen on October 9 and Great Northwest Branch will reopen on October 16 upon the completion of improvement projects.

Maverick Branch, located at 8700 Mystic Park, 78254, closed on August 1 and Great Northwest, located at 9050 Wellwood, 78250, closed August 7. Their reopening signals a return to regular service. As of their opening dates, both branches will be open Monday and Tuesday from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m. and Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Located on the city’s northwest side, Maverick Branch Library originally opened in 2006. Project updates include interior painting, improved restrooms, and carpet replacement.  

Great Northwest Branch originally opened in 1994 at 12,500 square feet. A meeting room and children’s area were added in 2006, expanding their space to cover over 17,000 square feet. Updates as part of the current project include interior painting and improved restrooms.

Holds will return to Maverick Branch after Monday, October 9 and to Great Northwest Branch after Monday, October 16.
